The Fisksätra Mosque construction project is an important initiative aimed at providing a space for the Muslim community in the Fisksätra area to worship and gather. The acquisition of land for the mosque is a significant achievement, as securing a suitable location for such a project can often be a challenging task.
However, one of the significant challenges that the project currently faces is securing the necessary funds to begin construction. Building a mosque can be a costly endeavor, and without the required financial resources, the project may struggle to get off the ground.
Fisksätra is a locality situated in Nacka Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden, with over 10,000 inhabitants from about 129 different nationalities. About 50% of the population in Fisksätra are Muslims, and the number of Muslims is increasing.
To accommodate the growing Muslim community, the Muslim’s Association in Nacka formed the Fisksätra Mosque Foundation to purchase land from the local church in Fisksätra for the construction of an Islamic cultural center and mosque named Bilal Mosque.
After years of hard work, discussions, and religious dialogues with the local community, the foundation successfully convinced them of the project and purchased a 370-square-meter piece of land from the local church. The foundation plans to start construction on the Bilal Mosque beside the Church as soon as they receive the necessary funds. Insha Allah.
The building will consist of three parts: the church, the mosque, and a glazed central atrium linking the two. Fisksätra Church was built in 1974 and is located in the middle of the community on Fisksätra Square. The mosque part will be built on the ground next to the church. A contract of sale between Nacka Parish and Fisksätra Mosque Foundation has been set up for the 300-square-metre lot. The mosque will be built in the same facade material as the church to give a uniform appearance. A purchase contract with Stiftelsen Fisksätramoskén has been drawn up on the 300 square meter sectioned-off plot. The mosque is built with the same facade material as the church to give a uniform appearance.
The mosque and the church will be connected by an indoor square, a glazed atrium called the Peace Square, where there will be room for activities and meetings, both spontaneous and scheduled. Have a cup of coffee at a café seminar or join a discussion or study group on a topic that interests you.
With glazed walls, ceiling, and floor the architecture of the Peace Square signals transparency, openness, and illumination; openness between people, openness to others’ beliefs and ways of life, and openness to a pluralistic society. We will let in light and open up space toward heaven…
